Caring for your Jewellery

Silver

We use recycled sterling silver (925), to make many of our pieces. If you have a skin type that reacts with silver, and causes it to oxidise or mark your skin, you can keep this issue at bay by using a silver polishing cloth and wiping your jewellery every morning and evening before and after wear. The colour does not fade, though we do not recommend bathing or sleeping in your jewellery.

Gold plating

Our gold plated jewellery is made in sterling silver, and plated with a generous, 5 - 10 micron layer of 18ct gold (depending on the item). Although we use a thicker layer of plating, it only covers the surface of the jewellery, and does have the potential to fade with wear, sometimes it can rub away quickly depending on your skin type or lifestyle. To keep the plating in good condition for longer, avoid swimming, bathing, showering or washing your hands while wearing your jeweller, or generally take it off any time it could be rubbed or scratched. We can always re-plate, starting from £45 dependant on the piece.

Gold

We use recycled gold. Gold is a pure metal, and keeps its brightness for a long time, however it does have the potential to tarnish, as any metal, this can be brightened back up with a gold polishing cloth, or we can spruce up your piece in the workshop, please email hello@tillysudsbury.com to arrange a light refurb.
